The greenhouse gases emitted by +1.9 billion vehicles, +26,000 airliners, +56,000 large ships and +12,000 coal/oil/gas fired power stations is resulting in global warming. Rapid transportation electrification and powerplant decarbonisation cannot be wholly achieved by limited and intermittent renewables such as hydro-electric dams, wind turbines and solar arrays, that all require fossil fuels for their construction. Fission nuclear powerplants do not generate greenhouse gases, however, their radioactive waste, legacy accidents has unfortunately limited their use. Life on Earth is dependent on our fusion-powered Sun, so can we emulate our fusion-powered Sun on Earth?
Existing non-integrated fusion device designs are very large and heavy which has made them immobile and expensive to develop, and despite spending many tens of £billions on different fusion device prototypes since 1958, we still do not have any practical electricity generating fusion-powered powerplants on Earth. The WEST Tokamak world record for fusion is 1377 seconds, however, Tokamak fusion devices have given the fusion industry a reputation of being perpetually 20 years from reality. Increasing investment is being made into “smaller” fusion devices globally, but alot of them are non-integrated without all of the sub-systems required for a practical electricity powerplant. Most of them are voluminous and immobile and cannot be fitted within ships, submarines, airliners, spacecraft. A fully integrated and mobile electricity generating fusion powerplant design is urgently required, but does it exist?
Yes, FUSIONROVER.
Dr Gary Sewell has gone back to the drawing board and has developed a disruptive FUSIONROVER fusion powerplant design that is uniquely fully integrated, modular, maintainable and is sufficiently compact that it is designed to be a mobile land, sea, air, space fusion powerplant. Using Health & Safety Executive regulated Hydrogen plasma fuel means that there are no chain reactions and no explosion risks, so making the exportable FUSIONROVER inherently safe to operate globally, whilst producing clean electricity for homes, industry, transport, desalination plants. Potentially, FUSIONROVER could be the fusion powerplant and transportation electrification solution that is urgently needed to secure fusion power and prosperity for centuries to come.
